This walk takes you south east with a climb up to the top of one of the hills that overlook Girvan with excellent views of the Firth of Clyde.

Leave the station and descend the steps opposite the entrance into Bourtreehall. - At the end turn left into Montgomerie Street. - Just past the police station turn left into The Avenue then cross over the road. - Prior to the Southfields Hotel turn right and follow the road then path over the burn until you come to Ailsa Street East. - Turn left then cross over the road turning right into Victoria Park Road. - At the end turn right and then immediately left into Roxburgh Road. - At the end turn left into Piedmont Road and follow this right to the top where it joins Coalpots Road.

Turn right and follow this until you reach a track on the left 300yards (275m) before the roundabout. – Turn left and follow the road towards the radio mast at Woodhill. – Continue along this road and after crossing over the railway line you will see a deep ravine on your left known locally as 'Sundown Valley'. - At the head of the ravine is a delightful spot where there is a waterfall and the confluence of two burns.

Turn right and ascend Dow (pronounced doo) Hill. - At 518ft (157m) it is the site of an ancient fort and a good view point. From the top there are breathtaking views of Byne Hill, Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran, the Firth of Clyde and the town of Girvan.

The walk is completed by descending south west to the railway line, passing under the bridge and back down towards the A714 main road.

Continue down hill towards the Shallochpark roundabout and on into Girvan along Glendoune Street. - Keep left at the mini-roundabout along Kirkpatrick Street and then Henrietta Street. - At the end you have picturesque Girvan Harbour. - Turn right into Knockcushan Street. - At the traffic lights turn left. On the right is Stumpy Tower , once the former gaol built in 1789. - Proceed along Bridge Street, Old Street and Vicarton Street. - The railway station is just prior to the bridge on your right.
